Blackout at Grand Hyatt

To my horror, as I did some research on Google, I came across this article where a wedding dinner was cancelled due to blackout at Grand Hyatt ballroom: http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20120428-342684.htm

And this article was dated just this month!

I suspect the blackout was probably due to some renovations going on at Grand Hyatt. I remember the catering sales person telling me over the phone that there were some renovations going on at the hotel.

So scary! Can you imagine if you were one of the guests there? I wonder whether Grand Hyatt refunded the wedding couple as it's such an embarrassing incident.

I think we shouldn't choose Grand Hyatt since I'm not sure how long their renovations will last. I don't want a blackout at my wedding!

I guess it's down to Marina Mandarin and Shangri La Sentosa.  Maybe we will also include Mandarin Oriental in our choices.

Most likely Grand Hyatt or Shangri La Sentosa

Pictures paint a thousand words. Hence I am going to show you images of Grand Hyatt and Shangri La Sentosa ballrooms and you will understand why we have narrowed down our choices to these two.

This is Grand Hyatt's ballroom:

This is Shangri La Sentosa's ballroom:

As you can see, both ballrooms are so beautiful. I feel that Shangri La's ballroom has much nicer chairs. Also, for Shangri La, you can see the outside scenery through the glass panels. This is the unique point of Shangri La.

Grand Hyatt, on the other hand, is at a much more convenient location. Its flower decorations are very pretty. Also, Grand Hyatt has four projector screens. I'm not sure how many projector screen Shangri La has.

Can you understand our dilemma now? Both are great in their own ways.

I wonder which one we will choose in the end. Stay tuned.

Down to the final three

After viewing all the hotels, we are down to the final three.

We will be choosing either Grand Hyatt, Shangri La Sentosa or Marina Mandarin. Dearie likes Grand Hyatt best because of its good location whereas I like Shangri La best because I find it has the nicest ambience.

Marina Mandarin is good too, but I think that Grand Hyatt and Shangri La are more posh. Hence, they are our top two choices.

We will be visiting Grand Hyatt and Shangri La again before making our final decision.

When we visited Mandarin Oriental recently, it failed to impress us because the hotel looked dimly lit. However, I hear that Mandarin Oriental serves good food. But that advantage alone is not enough for us to choose it as our wedding venue.

Which place to go for? Ambience or convenient location? Anyway, Grand Hyatt already has a couple on its waiting list for the auspicious date that we're looking at. Hence, even if we choose Grand Hyatt, we may not get it. On the other hand, Shangri La has already reserved this date for us.

I will update again.

Mandarin Oriental and MBS

Tomorrow we will be visiting two more hotels: Mandarin Oriental and Marina Bay Sands. However, we feel doubtful about MBS because some friends told us that MBS food and service are not very good.

My friends also asked me whether I have made arrangements for photoshoot, wedding gown, etc. I replied no as we are still undecided on the hotel. I think we had better decide on the hotel quickly so that we can start making other wedding arrangements.

Stay tuned for updates!

Finding a hotel for our wedding banquet

My fiance and I are in the midst of finding a hotel for our wedding banquet next year.

We find it a major headache because we are still clueless on how we will like the wedding banquet to be.

Over the last 2 weekends, we viewed Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Marina Mandarin Hotel, Shangri La Hotel at Sentosa and Grand Hyatt Hotel. We were attracted to the last three hotels only. Grand Copthorne failed to impress us because of the pillars inside the ballroom obstructing the view for some tables.

We will be viewing three more hotels next two weekends: Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Pan Pacific Hotel. Pan Pacific Hotel will allow for a small wedding as its minimum is 5 and maximum is 12 table.

What kind of wedding do I want? I don't know. I toyed with an idea yesterday night after watching a TV show where there was an outdoor wedding. I thought hey, Shangri La Hotel allows for that! But I remember dearie (that's what I call my fiance most times) doesn't fancy the idea because he's afraid of bad weather on the actual day. Bah, there goes my outdoor wedding bubble which lasted for awhile.

I will update again.

Welcome on board!

Howdy! This is my first blog entry. Let me introduce myself...

I'm not yet married to a pilot, but I'm engaged to one. So you can say it is very thick skinned of me to call myself a pilot's wife already!

I am from this "small red dot" on the world map called Singapore. It's a super hot, small and boring country.

My fiance is in the Singapore Air Force and we have been together for one year plus and counting. Currently, we are very busy as we have wedding plans to see to. He proposed to me last month.

This blog will be about anything under the sun be it our wedding plans, food, travel, etc.

Welcome on board!
